📊 Understanding GPA & Class Rank

🎓 Grading Scale – OCPS

Orange County Public Schools use a 0–100 grading scale:

  • A = 90–100
  • B = 80–89
  • C = 70–79
  • D = 60–69
  • F = 0–59

📈 Grade Point Average (GPA)

  • GPA is calculated each semester, but only final course grades count toward your official GPA.
  • Students receive report cards four times per year. GPA is updated after each semester and recalculated at the end of the school year.
  • Students receive both an unweighted GPA and a weighted GPA.

  • Unweighted GPA is used for graduation and course eligibility.
  • Weighted GPA reflects the rigor of advanced coursework.

🏅 Cumulative GPA

  • Based only on final grades.
  • Calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of courses attempted.

🏆 Class Rank

  • Calculated twice per year for juniors and seniors:
    • Fall (September)
    • Spring (February)
  • Valedictorian and Salutatorian are determined based on the highest weighted GPA at the end of the 7th semester (February of senior year).
  • All high school coursework is included, including:
    • Courses taken in middle school for high school credit
    • Online courses
    • Dual enrollment courses (if submitted before rank calculation)

📌 If multiple students have identical GPAs (to the third decimal), they will share the honor.
